Experts discuss ethical implications of AI in Italy

During recent discussions in Milan and Rome regarding the responsible use of artificial intelligence, experts and religious leaders emphasized the need for human-centric technological development.

Carlo Nardello, president of Comtel and professor at Sapienza University of Rome, stated that new technologies present both risks and opportunities. He noted that AI has fundamentally changed communication and accessibility, but stressed that users must take responsibility for the content they produce. Nardello highlighted that while AI can enhance quality in fields like cinema, it also impacts intellectual labor and human essence.

In a separate discussion at the ‘CyberShield AI Italia’ event, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco argued that technological tools must serve humanity rather than replace it. He emphasized that progress should be judged by a moral compass to ensure it leads to genuine development rather than regression, asserting that technology should assist human growth and security across all sectors of society.
