Carlos Acosta returns to London stage with Royal Ballet performances
Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta performed a five‑night series at the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera in London. The programme featured his first ever appearance in José Limón’s The Moor’s Pavane, performed with guest dancers from Birmingham Royal Ballet, followed by a suite from his acclaimed Nutcracker in Havana presented by Acosta Danza and Birmingham Royal Ballet. The concerts also included a Vaganova pas de deux, a duet titled “Nosotros,” and a closing piece, Rooster, choreographed by Christopher Bruce. Musical accompaniment was provided by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia under the direction of Paul Murphy.
Acosta, who directs both Birmingham Royal Ballet and his own Cuban company Acosta Danza, highlighted the blend of classic and contemporary works, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the event and his ongoing commitment to bringing Cuban dance to international audiences.
