Carlos Alberto da Cunha: Court suspends police dismissal

The São Paulo Court of Justice has suspended the dismissal of Carlos Alberto da Cunha, a federal deputy known as Delegado da Cunha, from the São Paulo Civil Police. The decision, a preliminary injunction granted by Judge Álvaro Torres Júnior, halts the effects of the dismissal signed by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas until a more detailed judicial analysis is completed.

The dismissal followed a disciplinary process involving allegations that Da Cunha used public resources, including police vehicles, weapons, and badges, to film and monetize content for his YouTube channel. Specifically, investigators cited a 2020 incident where Da Cunha allegedly orchestrated the reenactment of a kidnapping rescue to create dramatic footage for social media.

Da Cunha's defense argued that the administrative process contained irregularities, claiming new elements were introduced after the instruction phase had concluded without providing the defense a new opportunity to respond. While his position within the Civil Police is currently reinstated pending the court's final decision, his mandate as a federal deputy remains unaffected.
