Carlos Alcaraz misses Wimbledon 2026 after wrist injury, begins right‑hand training
Spanish world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Wimbledon 2026 because of a right‑wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona Open in April. The injury, diagnosed as tenosynovitis, also forced him out of the French Open and the entire grass‑court swing. Alcaraz announced his withdrawal in May, saying his recovery was progressing but he was not yet ready to compete.
In late June he posted a video showing himself hitting balls with his right hand for the first time since the injury, indicating a significant step forward in rehabilitation. He hopes to return for the North American hard‑court season in August, targeting events such as the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Masters and ultimately the US Open.
His absence has reshaped the Wimbledon draw, making Jannik Sinner the clear favourite. The situation highlights the impact of a top player’s injury on major tournaments and the cautious approach required for a safe comeback.
