World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion of the 2025 Cincinnati Open, announced his withdrawal from the 2026 ATP Masters 1000 event. The tournament director Bob Moran confirmed the decision, stating that Alcaraz is doing everything possible to recover and wishing him a speedy recovery.

The withdrawal is attributed to a lingering right‑wrist injury (tenosynovitis) first sustained in April at the Barcelona Open. The injury has already forced Alcaraz to miss the French Open and Wimbledon this season, as well as the Madrid and Rome Masters. By pulling out of Cincinnati, he will forfeit the 1,000 ranking points he earned by winning the title last year and has dropped to world No. 3 behind Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.

The Cincinnati Open, scheduled for August 13‑23 in Mason, Ohio, was intended as a final hard‑court preparation for the US Open, which begins on August 30 in New York. Alcaraz’s absence raises doubts about his ability to compete in that Grand Slam, as he has not played an official match since mid‑April.
