Carlos Areco secures €50M release clause at Fluminense

Paraguayan central defender Carlos Areco, 19, has gained significant attention following reports of a €50 million release clause in his contract with the Brazilian club Fluminense.

Norman Rieder, president of Sportivo Trinidense, confirmed that his club transferred 60% of the player's rights to Fluminense. Rieder noted that Fluminense initiated contact for Areco to undergo a trial, after which the club decided to sign him. The high release clause is viewed as a reflection of the club's confidence in the young player's future potential.

Former coach José Arrúa described Areco as a strong, tall, left-footed central defender. Areco moved to Brazil to continue his development without having made a professional debut in the Paraguayan first division, having previously played in the reserve squad.
