Carlos Alberto Beltrán Olmeda identified in Baja California Sur clandestine grave

The Attorney General's Office of Baja California Sur has confirmed through forensic genetic testing that skeletal remains found in a clandestine grave in San José del Cabo belong to Carlos Alberto Beltrán Olmeda. Beltrán Olmeda was the former Chief Administrative Officer (Oficial Mayor) of the Los Cabos municipal government and a political advisor to Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya.

The remains were originally discovered on July 13 in a dirt path leading toward the La Ballena neighborhood. Beltrán Olmeda had been reported missing after resigning from his position in Los Cabos on May 25, 2026, citing personal reasons.

Authorities are investigating several leads, including a trip Beltrán reportedly made to Guaymas, Sonora, where he met with fuel industry businessmen prior to his disappearance. The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Forced Disappearance is handling the case to determine the circumstances of his death and identify those responsible.
