Carlos Bruce calls for unified opposition vote in Lima mayoral race

Carlos Bruce, the Somos Perú candidate for Mayor of Lima, is calling for opposition voters to unify their support behind his candidacy to prevent the return of Rafael López Aliaga to the municipality.

Bruce claims that approximately 70% of Lima's electorate rejects López Aliaga, citing recent polling data from Datum, Ipsos, and CPI. He argues that a dispersion of votes among various opposition candidates currently favors the Renovación Popular party. López Aliaga, who left the mayoralty in October 2025 to participate in the 2026 general elections, is now running as the first councilman for Renovación Popular.

During recent media appearances, Bruce has criticized López Aliaga’s management and campaign style, describing it as “dirty,” “vulgar,” and “authoritarian.” Bruce noted that he has been subjected to personal insults, including being called a “drug trafficker,” but stated he intends to avoid direct retaliation to prevent the electoral debate from devolving into personal grievances. He emphasized his platform focuses on inclusivity regardless of ideology or religion.
