Carlos Bruce sues Rafael López Aliaga for defamation

Carlos Bruce, the Somos Perú candidate for the Mayoralty of Lima, has announced legal action against former mayor and current candidate Rafael López Aliaga for alleged aggravated defamation.

The dispute stems from a series of posts on the social media platform X, where López Aliaga accused Bruce of having links to the Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht and suggested he intended to reactivate tolls on the Panamericana Sur to benefit the company. Bruce has denied these claims, labeling López Aliaga a “compulsive liar” and stating that the accusations damage his honor and reputation.

Bruce has issued a notary letter demanding a public rectification and the cessation of these messages. He intends to formally file a lawsuit for defamation, arguing that the widespread reach of the posts on social media has caused significant harm to his political image.
