Carlos D’Ambrosio sets new Italian 200m freestyle record

Italian swimmer Carlos D’Ambrosio has set a new national record in the 200m freestyle during the 2026 European Championships in Paris. While competing in the 4x200m freestyle relay, the 19-year-old recorded a time of 1:44.72, surpassing the performances of competitors such as Great Britain’s Matthew Richards and Greece’s Dimitrios Markos.

D’Ambrosio also competed in the 100m freestyle final, where he finished in seventh place with a time of 47.58 seconds. Reflecting on the race, the athlete noted that he struggled with fatigue in the final ten meters and indicated that while he is currently more competitive in the 200m distance, he intends to continue working on his performance in the 100m event.
