Carlos Daniel Esteban named candidate for National Intelligence School director

Retired Colonel Carlos Daniel Esteban, a decorated Malvinas War veteran, is the leading candidate to head Argentina’s National Intelligence School (ENI). Esteban, who holds a doctorate in Political Science and currently serves as the Secretary of Science, Technology, and Innovation at the National Defense University, is expected to implement a new training model for the SIDE intelligence agency.

The appointment follows a government decree by President Javier Milei to reform the SIDE training statutes. The new framework aims to establish an open, transparent, and depoliticized professional career path for intelligence agents based on objective parameters. The ENI will provide mandatory common training and specialized instruction, with the ability to collaborate with various national and international academic institutions.

Esteban’s background in geopolitics and national defense is intended to provide intelligence analysts with strategic tools, specifically focusing on counterintelligence capabilities to address ongoing British intelligence operations regarding the Malvinas sovereignty claim.
