Carlos de Anda discusses poverty reduction and wage increases in Nuevo Laredo

During a walk through the Alianza neighborhood in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Carlos Germán de Anda Hernández engaged with local citizens to discuss the economic impact of the 'Cuarta Transformación' policies.

De Anda Hernández highlighted data from INEGI indicating that the number of people living in poverty in Mexico decreased from 51.9 million in 2018 to 38.5 million in 2024, a reduction of 13.4 million people. He noted that the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum is continuing the social policies initiated by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Additionally, the discussion addressed the recovery of purchasing power through minimum wage increases. In the Northern Border Free Zone, the daily minimum wage rose from 88.36 pesos in 2018 to 176.72 pesos starting in January 2019, representing a 100 percent increase. De Anda Hernández emphasized that these changes are particularly significant for border cities like Nuevo Laredo, where families rely heavily on labor income for essential needs.
