Carlos Enrique Cantarero graduates as lawyer after overcoming homelessness

Carlos Enrique Cantarero has graduated as a lawyer from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH), marking a significant personal achievement following years of extreme hardship. After losing his mother in 2002 as a child, Cantarero experienced family abandonment and lived on the streets for approximately four years.

His transition from homelessness to higher education was supported by Casa Alianza de Honduras and the Secretaría de Niñez, Adolescencia y Familia (SENAF), formerly known as IHNFA. These institutions provided him with vocational training and the necessary support to pursue his academic goals.

Upon receiving his degree on September 19, Cantarero advocated for increased investment in education for vulnerable youth, stating, “Recorte en educación es igual a involución” (Cuts in education equal regression). He emphasized that difficult childhood circumstances do not have to dictate one's future when educational opportunities and support systems are available.
