Carlos Federico Ortiz Ortiz elected Superintendent of Competencia

Carlos Federico Ortiz Ortiz has been elected as the new Superintendent of the Superintendencia de Competencia (Sicom) for the 2025-2031 term. The decision was reached by a majority vote of the Board on October 9, 2026, with directors Javier Bauer and Jorge Mario González voting in favor.

Ortiz, who holds degrees in Informatics and Business Administration, previously served in various public administration roles, including general manager of the Organismo Judicial and administrative director of the Congress of the Republic. During the evaluation phase, he ranked second among six candidates with a score of 79.97 points.

The election process faced internal criticism. Director Edgar Guzmán abstained from voting and expressed disagreement regarding the session convocations, agenda modifications, and the lack of prior deliberation on candidate profiles. The appointment occurred during a second attempt at a session, after a previous meeting failed due to a lack of quorum.
