Carlos García Roldán arrested in Calella for major real estate fraud

Carlos García Roldán, known as ‘Charly’, has been arrested in Calella, Barcelona, by the Guardia Civil after fleeing justice. He was found hiding in a recess within his mother’s home.

García Roldán was sentenced to 14 years and nine months in prison for masterminding the ‘Lujo Casareal estate fraud, which affected more than 230 families in the Balearic Islands. The scheme, operating between 2015 and 2018, involved selling off-plan properties in Mallorca that lacked the necessary land rights, licenses, or financing to be built. The fraud is estimated to have involved approximately 3 million euros.

This marks the second time García Roldán has gone on the run; he previously fled to Colombia in 2018 before being extradited. Following his recent arrest, he has been transferred to a prison in Catalonia.
