Carlos Guichard Romero honored for 40 years of environmental work in Chiapas

Biologist Carlos Guichard Romero has been awarded the “Miguel Álvarez del Toro” Medal by the Chiapas State Congress in recognition of his 40-year career dedicated to environmental conservation. The award, presented by Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, honors Guichard Romero’s work in studying terrestrial vertebrates and protecting the ecosystems and wildlife of Chiapas.

Guichard Romero previously led the ZooMAT between 1999 and 2007, where he implemented protection programs for endangered species such as the Mexican tapir, jaguar, and various birds of prey. He is also a founding member of the Mexican Herpetological Society.

During the same ceremony, Governor Ramírez administered the oath of office to Alejandra Gómez Mendoza, the new head of the State Roads Commission (Comisión Estatal de Caminos).
