Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña faces scrutiny over alcohol-related incident

Former Mexican national team midfielder Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña has recently drawn public attention following footage of him appearing to be under the influence of alcohol during an amateur football tournament in Querétaro. In the video, which circulated on social media, Peña was seen in a vehicle discarding what appeared to be the remains of a whiskey can while stating, “ya no quiero alcohol” (I don't want alcohol anymore). When approached by fans, he dismissed the situation as a joke.

This incident follows a history of public struggles with alcohol that have impacted his professional career. Past controversies include a 2017 car accident in León while driving under the influence and a viral video involving inappropriate behavior toward a fan. Peña, who played in the 2014 World Cup and represented clubs such as León, Chivas, Cruz Azul, and Rangers, is currently without a professional team.
