Carlos Horacio Salinas: Former Boca and River Champion Now Living on a Pension

Carlos Horacio "Loco" Salinas, a 70‑year‑old forward from Tucumán, is one of the few Argentine players to win titles with both River Plate and Boca Juniors. He helped River end an 18‑year title drought in 1975 and later starred for Boca, scoring in the 1977 Intercontinental Cup win over Borussia Mönchengladbach and in the 1978 Copa Libertadores final.

Salinas was notorious for his volatile temperament, receiving a historic 25‑match suspension after attacking an referee in 1978 and later serving additional bans. After retiring at 31, he became involved in drug‑trafficking allegations, was convicted and imprisoned in Devoto, and lost a multimillion‑dollar fortune.
