Carlos “Loco” Iglesias, basketball legend, dies at 70

Carlos Osvaldo “Loco” Iglesias, a prominent figure in Argentine and Chilean basketball, has passed away at the age of 70 in Temuco, Chile. He had been battling an illness.

Born in Argentina, Iglesias rose to prominence in the 1970s playing for clubs such as Tiro Federal and Deportivo Roca, where he helped the team achieve an undefeated championship. In 1977, he moved to Chile, playing for Unión Deportiva Española de Temuco, Salesianos de Valdivia, and Universidad de Concepción. He eventually obtained Chilean nationality in 1988.

Beyond his playing career, Iglesias became a highly regarded coach. His coaching achievements include winning the Chilean Dimayor championship in 1994 with Universidad de Temuco and the National League title in 2012-2013 with Español de Talca. He was noted for his motivational style and intense presence on the sidelines.
