Carlos Mazón sued for false testimony on Valencia flood investigation

The Valencian branch of the PSOE (PSPV‑PSOE) has filed a criminal complaint with Spain's Supreme Court against former regional president Carlos Mazón, accusing him of giving false testimony to the Congress of Deputies about the November‑2024 "dana" flood. The petition cites contradictions between Mazón’s parliamentary statements, the ongoing investigation by the Catarroja court into the flood’s management, and WhatsApp messages from the regional government that show he knew the situation earlier.

Hundreds of people gathered in Paiporta on 29 July, marking the 20‑month anniversary of the flood that killed 56 residents and left 230 dead. Protesters demanded that Mazón’s parliamentary immunity be lifted so he can appear before the Catarroja court, urged faster reconstruction of devastated towns, and paid tribute to the victims. Speakers included victims’ families, with Toñi García declaring, "Seguiremos luchando por la verdad hasta el final," and Rosa Álvarez calling the regional administration’s handling "criminal." The demonstration was organised by more than 200 civic, social and trade‑union groups alongside victims’ associations.
