Carlos Mazón faces new Congressional summons over DANA management

Carlos Mazón, the former president of the Generalitat Valenciana, faces renewed scrutiny regarding his management of the DANA weather catastrophe that caused 232 deaths in October 2024. The Spanish Congress's investigative commission is planning to summon Mazón to testify again this month, following a legal document submitted by his lawyers that sought to deny any responsibility for the fatalities.

Political groups, including PSOE and Compromís-Sumar, are pushing for his appearance to address delays in the emergency alert system. This parliamentary movement coincides with social unrest; protesters have organized a demonstration in Alicante on September 26 under the slogan ‘Mazón a presó’ (Mazón to prison), marking the first time these monthly protests have moved outside the province of Valencia.
