Carlos Monforte, veteran journalist and news anchor, dies at 77
Journalist Carlos Monforte has died in Brasília at the age of 77. His family confirmed to TV Globo that he had been undergoing treatment for cancer.
Monforte was a pioneer in Brazilian telejournalism, best known for being the first editor-in-chief and anchor of the news program Bom Dia Brasil in 1983, a role he held for nine years. His extensive career spanned nearly four decades, primarily with TV Globo, where he joined as a reporter in 1978. During his tenure, he contributed to major programs such as Jornal Nacional and Fantástico, and covered significant political events, including the metalworkers' strikes in the ABC Paulista region.
In addition to his work at TV Globo, Monforte served as a coordinator for GloboNews in Brasília and presented Jornal das Dez. His professional background also included work for the newspapers A Tribuna and O Estado de S. Paulo, as well as a period managing communications for the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
