Carlos Ortiz Domínguez urges decisive climate action in Spain

Carlos Ortiz Domínguez, a Seville‑born engineer and professor at Universidad Loyola, specialises in renewable energy, carbon capture and thermochemical storage. He has been named among Stanford’s World’s Top 2 % Scientists.

Ortiz cited Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that link the rise in extreme weather events—such as droughts, floods and forest fires—to human‑driven climate change. He argued that the debate over whether climate change has real consequences is over, and that policy must now focus on mitigation, adaptation and coordinated international action.

Emphasising the global nature of the problem, he warned that reductions in Europe alone are insufficient; effective solutions require worldwide political cooperation.
