Carlos Queiroz leaves Ghana national team coaching role
Carlos Queiroz has departed his role as head coach of the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, following a poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Under Queiroz, the team recorded one win, one draw, and five defeats across seven matches, including recent losses to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia.
Analysts suggest that Queiroz’s exit highlights deeper structural issues within Ghanaian football rather than just coaching failures. The team’s decline includes failing to win a single game at AFCON 2023 and missing out on the AFCON 2025 tournament. Observers argue that frequent managerial changes have failed to address systemic problems regarding player development, club sustainability, infrastructure, and football administration.
In response to previous failures, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved the Black Stars Management Committee in November 2024 and initiated a football retreat involving various stakeholders to address the national team's performance.
