Carlos René Montoya Muñoz appointed president of Colpensiones

The Board of Directors of Colpensiones has appointed lawyer Carlos René Montoya Muñoz as the new president of the entity. Montoya, a graduate of the Universidad del Sinú with specializations in Negotiation and Conflict Management, Civil Procedural Law, and Administrative Law, brings 25 years of experience in both public and private sectors.

His professional background includes roles at the General Auditor of the Republic, the Ombudsman's Office, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. He also holds training in Senior Management from the Universidad de los Andes and in labor relations from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Montoya assumes leadership during a period of significant financial and structural challenges. The Minister of Labor, Natalia Eugenia López Fuentes, noted that the entity requires an additional 5 trillion pesos to guarantee pension payments for the final two months of the year, and approximately 58 trillion pesos to cover payments for the upcoming year. The appointment also occurs amidst the implementation of pension reforms that will increase Colpensiones' role in managing national contributions.
