Williams Racing secures contract extensions for Sainz and Albon

Williams Racing has secured long-term commitments from both of its Formula 1 drivers, Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, despite a difficult 2026 season. Albon has signed a contract extension through 2027, while Sainz has agreed to a multi-year deal.

Team principal James Vowles admitted he feared losing the pair, describing them as “world championship-material drivers” who deserve to fight for podiums. The team’s recent struggles include the FW48 chassis being overweight and arriving late for testing, which saw the team drop to ninth in the constructors' standings.

Sainz noted that his decision to stay was based on understanding the technical issues and believing in the team's long-term direction. He expressed a desire to help the organization rebuild rather than leaving during a period of poor performance. The drivers' commitment is seen as a significant boost for the team's staff as they work toward the 2027 regulations.
