Carlos Sainz identifies production quality issues at Williams Racing

Williams Racing driver Carlos Sainz has identified production quality and part consistency as the team’s primary technical weaknesses following a difficult start to the 2026 Formula 1 season. While the team previously struggled with car weight and aerodynamic concepts, Sainz noted that even identical components, such as floor specifications, exhibit unpredictable and varying behavior on the track.

Despite these technical setbacks and a drop in competitive standing compared to the 2025 season, Williams has secured long-term stability by renewing contracts for both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon. Team Principal James Vowles expressed prior concerns regarding the potential departure of his drivers due to the lack of a competitive car, but praised their resilience and commitment to the long-term project.

Sainz has actively worked to motivate factory staff, encouraging them to ‘take it personally’ to drive performance improvements. Vowles highlighted Sainz’s mental approach and stability as vital assets for the team’s ongoing reconstruction efforts.
