Carlos Salinas de Gortari speaks at Harvard University

Former Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari, who served from 1988 to 1994, made a public appearance at Harvard University. He participated in a lecture titled ‘Hablemos de México’ (Let’s Talk About Mexico) organized by the Harvard Mexican Students Association (HUMAS).

Salinas de Gortari shared his ideas and experiences with students, including Diego Salazar, the 2026-2027 co-president of HUMAS and a Master of Public Administration student at the Harvard Kennedy School. This appearance marks a rare public engagement for the former PRI president, who has generally remained distant from the public eye and media interactions in recent years compared to other former Mexican leaders.

Founded in 1992, HUMAS aims to foster collaboration between academics, students, and professional leaders to represent and discuss Mexico, while acknowledging the economic, social, and cultural impact of the Mexican community in the United States.
