Carlos Saura’s home to become film school in Madrid
The Community of Madrid will open the ‘Casa del Cine’ in the spring of 2027, located at the former residence of filmmaker Carlos Saura in Collado Mediano. The project aims to transform Saura’s home into a film school and mentorship hub for emerging audiovisual talent.
In collaboration with the Saura family and the Madrid School of Cinematography and Audiovisual (ECAM), the initiative will offer an intensive program. Students will have access to the director’s personal studio, library, photographic archive, and equipment to develop projects inspired by his creative universe. Participants will also have the opportunity to work alongside established directors and industry professionals.
This initiative is part of a broader regional strategy to bolster the audiovisual industry, which accounts for 2.2% of Madrid’s GDP. Additionally, the regional government plans to launch a ‘Filming Destination Network’ to facilitate productions across various municipalities by streamlining administrative processes and providing legal certainty for film crews.
