Carlos Seabra Suarez leads 2026 election individual donations

Carlos Seabra Suarez, an entrepreneur known in the energy sector as the ‘Rei do Gás’ (King of Gas), has emerged as the largest individual donor for the 2026 elections in Brazil. According to partial accountability reports released by the Electoral Justice, Suarez donated R$ 5.7 million directly to the national directorates of six political parties, including MDB, PP, PSD, PSDB, União Brasil, and PSB.

Suarez, a co-founder of the construction firm OAS and founder of Termogás, has significant interests in energy infrastructure and natural gas distribution. His political influence is noted in legislative discussions regarding the privatization of Eletrobras and regulatory frameworks for offshore wind and fossil gas expansion.

Other major individual donors identified in the report include Alexandre Grendene Bartelle, co-founder of Grendene, and Rubens Ometto of Cosan/Raízen/Comgás. Total individual donations to parties and candidates have reached R$ 374.9 million.
