Grupo Carso to invest 4 billion pesos in Puebla urban renewal
Carlos Slim and Grupo Carso have announced a major investment project to revitalize the Paseo de San Francisco area in the Historic Center of Puebla, Mexico. The project involves an initial investment of approximately 4 billion pesos covering a polygon of over 32,000 square meters.
The development plan includes the construction of roughly 700 residential units for sale and rent, commercial spaces, and an underground parking garage. Other proposed features include the modernization of a commercial complex, an old textile factory, and the potential construction of an aquarium. The project aims to generate 1,500 permanent and 2,500 indirect jobs to boost local tourism and the economy.
Because the area is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the project requires authorization from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). Local authorities, including Puebla Mayor Pepe Chedraui, have expressed support for the economic stimulus but emphasized the need for strict supervision to prevent gentrification and ensure the preservation of the city's historical and architectural heritage.
