Ford Coyote engine build targets 7-second quarter-mile for Fox Mustang

Carlos Sobrino has collaborated with Chris Smith and the team at Elan Power Products to develop a high-performance, naturally aspirated 336-cubic-inch Coyote engine. The project aims to power Sobrino’s stick-shift Fox Mustang, known as ‘Joker 2.0H’, into the 7-second quarter-mile range.

Unlike many modern performance builds that rely on turbochargers or superchargers, this engine is designed for a drag-racing class where displacement and engine speed are open variables. To achieve the necessary power without boost, the engine was engineered to handle shifts at 10,000 rpm, requiring specialized components ranging from the crankshaft to the intake manifold.
