Carlos Suárez elected president of Ecopetrol Board of Directors

Carlos Suárez has been unanimously elected as the new president of the Board of Directors of Ecopetrol, Colombia’s largest oil company. The election, held on September 17, 2026, comes as the company faces an institutional and reputational crisis.

Suárez, a lawyer specializing in fiscal control, will be supported by Claudia Lafaurie, the legal vice president of CNE Oil & Gas, who has assumed the vice presidency of the board. The new leadership aims to restore corporate governance, combat corruption, prevent energy shortages, and return to exploration activities.

Suárez’s strategic roadmap focuses on three primary pillars: crisis management and the recovery of institutional trust, fiscal control and legal protection, and market value strategy.
