Carlos Torres Piña addresses missing phones in Carlos Manzo homicide case

Carlos Torres Piña, a former prosecutor, clarified that the State Attorney General's Office did not initially request the mobile phones of Carlos Manzo because the devices were not found at the crime scene or the hospital. Consequently, no chain of custody was established for the devices during the early stages of the investigation.

Torres Piña noted that while requests were made to Grecia Quiroz, the current mayor of Uruapan, during November and December, the devices were not provided. A new formal request for the phones has been issued following recent expansions in witness statements and new information incorporated into the case.

Regarding the progress of the homicide investigation, Torres Piña reported that 31 individuals have been detained. Among them is Jorge Armando “N”, also known as “El Lic”, who is identified by authorities as a regional criminal leader allegedly responsible for planning and executing the attack against Manzo. The investigation into the common crime aspect is reportedly 80 to 90 percent complete, while the federal line involving organized crime is nearly resolved.
