Carlos Torres Piña, a Morena figure in Michoacán, is leading internal preference polls for the party’s coordination in the state. According to a survey by Rubrum conducted on September 2, 2026, Torres Piña holds 31.5% of the intended vote, an increase from 27.9% in April. He maintains an 8.2 percentage point lead over the second-place candidate, Raúl Morón, who sits at 23.3%.
Other candidates in the internal contest include Gladyz Butanda (22.4%), Fabiola Alanís (16.9%), and Celeste Ascencio (5.9%). The data indicates a steady upward trend for Torres Piña over the last six months.
During an assembly in Paracho, Torres Piña emphasized the importance of returning to the movement’s origins by prioritizing grassroots organization and the rights of indigenous peoples. He noted that the transformation in Michoacán must recognize the historical and cultural significance of native communities, including their languages, traditions, and forms of social organization.
