Carlos Vinícius rejects América proposal amid Grêmio contract uncertainty
Grêmio striker Carlos Vinícius recently rejected an official transfer proposal from Mexico's América. Despite this refusal, the player's future with the Brazilian club remains uncertain.
Because Vinícius did not meet specific performance criteria required for an automatic contract extension, he is legally permitted to negotiate pre-contracts with other teams. This has increased interest from clubs in the MLS, the Mexican league, and Brazil's Serie A. Grêmio is currently attempting to negotiate a new deal to extend his contract by two seasons to avoid losing him without compensation.
Vinícius has been a key performer for Grêmio this season, leading the team's scoring with 18 goals in official matches (or 21 if including World Cup break friendlies). He has scored 30 goals in 54 total appearances for the club.
