Carlos Xavier on trial for 2004 murder of teenager

Former District Federal deputy Carlos Pereira Xavier, known as Adão Xavier, is undergoing trial by the Recanto das Emas Jury for the 2004 murder of 16-year-old Ewerton da Rocha Ferreira.

Prosecutors allege that Xavier ordered the killing, paying R$ 15,000 for the execution, driven by suspicions regarding his wife's extramarital relationships. While Xavier had previously been sentenced to 15 years in prison, that conviction was annulled in 2024 following the presentation of new evidence by the defense.

During his testimony, Xavier claimed he and his wife were separated at the time of the crime and remarked that he would have had to kill many people if he intended to target all of her alleged lovers. The trial follows several delays due to judicial and health-related issues.
