Carlton clinches AFL wildcard berth after dramatic draw with Bulldogs

Carlton has secured an AFL wildcard berth following a dramatic 12. 10 (82) to 12. 10 (82) draw against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium. The result, punctuated by a late goal from Frank Evans, ensures Carlton will participate in the wildcard finals round and mathematically eliminates St Kilda and Greater Western Sydney from contention.

The match marked a significant turnaround for the Blues under interim coach Josh Fraser. After a poor start to the season following the departure of Michael Voss, Fraser has overseen 10 wins, a draw, and one loss in 13 matches. The Bulldogs played without superstar Marcus Bontempelli, who was rested, and ruckman Tim English, who is sidelined with a knee injury.

Individual performances included standout efforts from Carlton’s Patrick Cripps, Sam Walsh, and Blake Acres, all recording at least 30 disposals. Will Hayward contributed three goals for the Blues before suffering a right ankle injury. For the Bulldogs, Ed Richards recorded 31 disposals and two goals.
