Carlyle to acquire $7.7 billion personal loan portfolio from Truist
Carlyle has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire an approximately $7.7 billion portfolio of unsecured personal loans from Truist. The acquisition is intended to expand Carlyle’s asset-backed finance activity and its role as a capital partner for banks seeking to optimize their balance sheets.
The portfolio primarily consists of fixed-rate, fully amortizing personal loans issued to super-prime and prime borrowers. Carlyle described the assets as a seasoned pool of consumer loans, noting that the transaction reflects an increasing demand from banks for private capital solutions to manage portfolios more efficiently.
Sidley Austin provided legal representation for Carlyle in the transaction. The deal is being led by Carlyle’s Asset-Backed Finance team within its Global Credit platform, which managed approximately $211 billion in assets as of June 30, 2026.
