Carmagnola initiates cleanup of contaminated Italdry industrial site
The municipality of Carmagnola has commissioned work to remediate ‘Vasca 2’ at the former Italdry industrial laundry site in the Bossola district. This specific tank has been identified as one of the primary potential sources of groundwater contamination in the western area of the city.
The project involves the dismantling, cleanup, and isolation of the tank, which contains oils likely recovered from water washing operations. The works, awarded to the firm PGF of Moretta at a cost of approximately 33,000 euros, will be funded through the 2026 municipal budget. This intervention follows a 2023 project approved for the safety and remediation of several primary contamination sources, including tanks 2, 3, and 6, as well as various manholes.
Additionally, the Piedmont Region has allocated 117,000 euros to the municipality to support the ongoing remediation efforts at the site. The ultimate goal of these operations is the eventual redevelopment of the area.
