Carmarthenshire police officers awarded bravery medals for house fire rescue

Two police officers from Carmarthenshire, PC Taylor Rees and PC Guto Dafydd, have been awarded bronze bravery medals by the Society for the Protection of Life from Fire. The honors recognize their actions during a house fire on Mansel Street in November.

Responding to emergency calls, the officers entered a residential building where flames were rapidly spreading through the first floor. Inside, they located a young woman asleep in her bed while an adjacent bedroom was fully engulfed in flames. After successfully rescuing her, PC Rees attempted to combat the fire, though thick smoke prevented further solo action. The intensity of the heat caused upstairs windows to explode shortly after the occupants were accounted for.

Both officers received medical treatment for burns and smoke inhalation but remained on duty to finish their shifts. An individual was subsequently arrested and convicted of arson being reckless as to whether life is endangered.
