Carmelo commemorates 201 years of Independence Declaration
The city of Carmelo, in the Colonia Department, held official ceremonies to commemorate the 201st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The event, organized by the Intendencia de Colonia, the Departmental Patriotic Committee, the Female Patriotic Committee, and the Sociedad Criolla La Querencia, took place at Plaza Artigas.
The ceremony included the singing of the National Anthem by the Carmelo Polyphonic Choir and the Banda de Músicos of the Infantry Brigade N° 2. Speeches were delivered by Professor Romina Bevegni and Major Carlos Alberto Vaucheret. A central part of the act involved placing a floral offering at the monument to General José Artigas, attended by local authorities including Intendant Guillermo Rodríguez and Mayor Luis Pablo Parodi.
Following the official act, a civic, military, and traditionalist parade was held along Carmen Street, moving from Lavalleja to General Flores, involving various local institutions and residents in the public celebration.
