Carmen Laforet's legacy discussed at Festivalito La Palma

At the Festivalito La Palma, director Isabel Fernández, actress Mónica López, and writer Elsa López held a discussion regarding the legacy of Spanish author Carmen Laforet. The event followed a screening of the film ‘Por qué no escribo nada’, which explores Laforet’s life and challenges the long-standing narrative of her supposed silence following the success of her novel ‘Nada’.

The discussion focused on themes of freedom, rebellion, and the importance of reclaiming a woman's true voice from societal and cultural expectations. Elsa López characterized Laforet’s spirit with the phrase ‘No me da la gana’ (I don't feel like it), representing her refusal to conform to the dictates of her era.

Isabel Fernández previously received the Best Foreign Direction award at the Cinerama Canarias awards for the film, which utilizes Laforet’s personal correspondence to present a more original and independent perspective of the author.
