Paraguay Central Bank director Carmen Marín resigns amid institutional tension

Carmen Marín has resigned from the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP). Her departure occurs amidst significant political and institutional pressure regarding the bank's supervisory mechanisms and its oversight of certain business conglomerates.

President Santiago Peña addressed the resignation, stating that it should be viewed within the framework of the BCP's autonomy and independence. He emphasized that the Executive Branch does not intervene in the administrative decisions of the central bank. Marín, a former Vice Minister of Economy, was the first woman to serve on the BCP Board.

The resignation leaves a vacancy in the BCP's governing body, which currently includes President Carlos Carvallo and directors Miguel Mora and Marco González. The Executive Branch must now propose a new candidate to the Senate for constitutional approval.
