Carmen Ortí defends record 774.9 million euro education budget

Carmen Ortí, the Valencian Minister of Education, Culture, and Universities, defended a record budget of 774.9 million euros for the 2026-2027 academic year during a session at the Corts Valencianes. This allocation represents approximately 30% of the region's total accounts.

Ortí highlighted that the educational system currently serves 808,688 students with a workforce of 88,405 teachers. The increase in staff is part of the 'Pla Més Mestre' initiative, which aims to add 5,000 professionals by 2029 and stabilize 10,000 structural positions through an investment of over 469 million euros.

The appearance was marked by political tension. Opposition groups and unions criticized the administration over ongoing conflicts regarding the Edificant plan and teacher working conditions. Unions also reported being barred from entering the session room.
