Carmen Posadas releases novel about the Mitford sisters
Writer Carmen Posadas has released a new novel, ‘Las Mitford’ (Espasa), which reconstructs the lives of the six Mitford sisters, an aristocratic British family whose divergent political paths mirrored the turbulence of the 20th century.
The sisters represented extreme ideological divides: Nancy became a successful writer, Diana joined British fascist leader Oswald Mosley, Unity became part of Hitler’s inner circle, and Jessica embraced communism, even traveling to Spain during the Civil War. Other sisters included Deborah, who became the Duchess of Devonshire, and Pamela, who lived a more discreet life.
Posadas chose Pamela as the narrator because she was an observer rather than a central figure in the family’s public scandals. The novel explores the intersection of luxury, extreme political passions, and the personal rivalries of the family during the interwar period.
