Carmiel to host new rail freight terminal

The National Planning and Building Council has approved the advancement of a plan to establish a new rail freight terminal in Carmiel. The plan has now been moved to the district committees and the public for comments.

Located near the future industrial zone and the Carmiel-Kiryat Shmona railway line, the terminal is designed to integrate the Galilee's industrial and logistics hubs with the national rail network, sea ports, and production centers. The facility will include loading and unloading areas, warehouses, and supporting structures.

The Ministry of Transport aims to shift a significant portion of cargo transport from heavy trucks to railways. This strategic move is intended to reduce traffic congestion on northern roads, decrease road wear, lower air and noise pollution, and improve road safety. Additionally, officials expect the project to strengthen the Galilee's economy and help lower the cost of living by improving supply chain efficiency.
