Carmine Agnello begins prison sentence after failed kidney donation

Carmine Agnello, the 40-year-old grandson of late Gambino crime boss John Gotti, has begun serving a 15-month federal prison sentence in New Jersey. Agnello surrendered to the Federal Correctional Institution Fairton on August 10 following a series of delays regarding his sentence for COVID-19 fraud.

A Brooklyn judge had previously granted Agnello a two-month reprieve to allow him to donate a kidney to his mother, Victoria Gotti. However, the scheduled transplant on August 3 did not take place. While Agnello’s attorney, Robert Beltrani, argued that the surgery was delayed because Victoria Gotti was battling a severe infection, Judge Nusrat Choudhury set a strict deadline.

The judge ruled that if the transplant did not occur by August 10, Agnello was required to report to prison. Despite further requests for an extension based on his mother's medical condition, the motion was denied, and Agnello has now entered custody.
