Carmo do Paranaíba pedestrian killed in vehicle accident
A 68-year-old woman, Maria Ismênia Mendes, died following a vehicle accident in Carmo do Paranaíba, Brazil. The incident occurred on Rua Santo Antônio when a Fiat Toro struck the pedestrian.
While the driver claimed the victim stepped suddenly from the curb and that she performed a reversing maneuver after the initial impact, a witness alleged that the vehicle passed over the fallen woman twice. Although breathalyzer tests returned 0.00 mg/L, witnesses reported seeing the driver with a beer bottle prior to police arrival. Additionally, authorities issued a traffic violation because the vehicle was being operated by an unlicensed individual.
