The controversy follows online backlash regarding several posts attributed to Anya on X. These include a response to a user in which she allegedly wrote, 'Die first, white man, then ask yourself why I’m dancing.' Other controversial remarks attributed to her include comments regarding the death of Rush Limbaugh in 2021 and remarks about Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Carnegie Mellon confirmed that Anya is currently on voluntary professional leave and is not teaching courses on campus during the 2026 academic year.
